The Prayer of Jabez - 1 Chronicles 4:9-10

 (9) And Jabez was more honorable than this brethren:  and his mother called his name
Jabez saying, because I bare him with sorrow.
 (10) And Jabez called on the God of Israel,
saying, oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thou wouldest
keep me from evil.  That it may not grieve me, and God granted him that which he requested.

~ Jabez was qualified above his brethren by divine grace and dignified above them by divine
providence.  Jabez brethren did virtuously, but he excelled them.

~ Jabez was a famous doctor of law, a well know person In his time.  A city was likely named
after him (1 Chron. 2:55).  He was also a praying man, his devotion made him truly
honorable, and by his prayers he obtained blessings from God and this added much to his
honor.

~ He Acknowledged God in all his ways, and he put himself under God's divine blessings and
protection and he prospered accordingly.  Jabez prayed constantly alone and with his family.

~ Jabez prayed to the God of Israel, the true and living God, the nature of his prayer was a
solemn vow.  Jabez did not express his promise, but rather he left it open for God's will to be
done.

~ The matter of Jabez prayer was that (1) God would bless him indeed, (2)That God would
enlarge his coast, and prosper his endeavors, enlarge his heart as well as enlarged his portion
in himself and in the heavenly Canaan, (3) that God's hand might be with him, (4) that God
would keep him from evil, the evil of sin, evil of trouble and all the evil designs of his
enemies that they might not hurt, nor grieve, nor that he be a man of sorrow.

~ God granted Jabez his request, God prospered him remarkably and gave him success in his
undertakings, his studies, his worldly business and in his conflicts.

~ We must have God's hand and the presence of His power with us.  God's hand will be with
us, lead us, protect us, strengthen us, and work all our works in us and for us.  God's hand is
indeed sufficient for us, for He is an all sufficient God.

Blessings Upon You
